FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What is the difference between the 1.5 hour and the 2.5 hour Super Pit Tour?

The 1.5 hour tour does everything the 2.5 hour tour does except go through the Fimiston milling and crushing operation. We only occasionally run the 1.5 hour tour when the Flimiston milling operations are on maintenance shut down or large demand.

Does the Super Pit tour go to the bottom of the pit?

Unfortunately due to safety concerns the tour does not go to the very bottom of the pit but does travel through the haul roads with the big trucks.
You are definitely inside the pit!

Where can I park my caravan?

There is designated Campervan and Caravan parking bays on Cassidy Street (between Brookman and Dugan Street) walking distance to the Kalgoorlie Tours and Charters shop.

Where can I park my car?

There is all day parking bays on Egan Street and Brookman Street, both running parallel to Hannan Street. Please do not park in Hannan Street as this is only 2 hour parking between 9 am to 6 pm Monday to Friday and 9 am to 1 pm Saturday.

Do I have to wear long sleeve shirt, long pants and enclosed shoes on the Super Pit Tour?

Yes. As you will be going on to an operating mine site you have to abide by the KCGM occupational health and safety requirements. We do have light weight coveralls for $10.00 in store if you get stuck which are suitable for Adults and Children aged 10 years and over, however fully enclosed shoes and socks must still be worn.

Where do you pick up from?

All Super Pit tours depart from Kalgoorlie Tours and Charters, St Barbara Square, 250 Hannan Street, Kalgoorlie.

How far in advance can I book a tour ?

We only schedule our tours up to 6 weeks in advance so we can provide as much up to date information as possible after consulting with the mine site.

Do I need to book in advance ?

Bookings are essential to guarantee a seat. Each tour vehicle is limited to carry a certain number of passengers. Pre-Booking ensures that a seat is reserved for you on the departure of your choice. We will still sell available tickets on day of departure, but these are subject to availability. During long weekends, school holidays and our peak season (April – October) we recommend booking at least 48 hours in advance to avoid disappointment.

Do you have a toilet onboard the bus ?

Please note most of our vehicles are not equipped with toilets and there is no opportunity to stop along the way so please use the public facilities prior to boarding.

What kind of shoes do I need to wear ?

Please wear comfortable, fully enclosed shoes such as running, sport or hiking shoes. Slip on shoes are not ideal as some aren’t fully enclosed and won’t be accepted.
